Special Music
Special Music is the term given to vocal or instrumental music offered
during one of two Celebration Worship Services. Vocal special music usually
comes in one of the following forms: solo, duet, trio, quartet, small
ensemble or choir. It can come at any point in the service per direction
of the Worship Pastor.
Instrumental special music usually comes in one of the following forms:
piano, organ, keyboard, percussion, string or wind instrument. It usually
occurs during the receiving of tithes and offerings. Children, teens and
adults are encouraged to participate in both special and offertory music.
A quarterly printed schedule is compiled by the Worship Pastor and mailed
to all vocal and instrumental participants.
Instrumental Music
Instrumental music is an emerging ministry here at First Church. If you
play an instrument or have in the past, we have a place for you! Currently
the Celebration Orchestra plays in the 10:45am and 6:00pm Sunday services.
The orchestra is open to individuals Seventh grade and older. The group
is composed of string, brass, wind, and percussion instruments. Rehearsals
are on Wednesday evenings from 8:15pm - 9:00pm and on Sunday at 9:00am.
Celebration Choir
Celebration Choir is the name of the choir that performs in the Celebration
Worship Services. The primary purpose of this group is to glorify the
Lord through musical expression. This volunteer choir is for men and women
ages 15 and older. Performance styles range from hymns to black gospel.
Each December the choir presents a Christmas musical and in April a spring
concert. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons at 4:45pm.
The choir performs in the 10:45am service. They also perform in the 6:00pm
service on the first Sunday of the month. A variety of social and musical
training events are held throughout the year. The performance season is
September thru June. Commitment to the entire season is requested. If
you're looking for a musical entry point this is the place to start. A
special "Choir Handbook" is available describing the philosophy, guidelines
and procedures for the choir.
Musical Productions
Musical Productions provide opportunities for individuals to participate
in large scale events. These productions usually result in tremendous
outreach opportunities to the community and the unsaved. These events
normally involve Celebration Choir and Orchestra, children and youth choirs,
drama and a host of technicians operating sound, lights and multimedia.
Currently two productions are presented each year: "An Evening In December"
and "Resounding Praise". You do not need to be a current member of Celebration
Choir to participate in "An Evening December." Extra rehearsals are required
for each production.
Children's Choir
Children are a gift from God and we believe in using that gift here at
First Church. If your child likes to sing or you would like to involve
them in children's music you can find a variety of opportunities. Children
learn to sing in Children's Church, Sunday School and at Vacation Bible
School.
For those who are ready, children are encouraged to sing or play an instrument
in the Celebration Services, either by themselves or in groups.
Currently there is one graded choir for children ages 1st thru 6th grade.
Rehearsals are 7:00pm - 8:15pm on Wednesday. A full-scale musical is presented
each year December involving drama, sound, lights and scenery.
If you have children who like to sing exciting spirited Christ center
music this is the place.
Youth Music
Teenagers are encouraged to participate in all aspects of music ministry
within the church - special music, offertory music, Celebration Choir,
etc., etc.
A specific opportunity designed just for them is our youth choir - Destiny.
This volunteer choir is for teenagers seventh thru twelfth grade. They
rehearse Sunday afternoons once a month at 1:30pm. They sing in the 6:00pm
Celebration Service once a month. Performance season is from January thru
July.
A highlight of the year is an 18 day summer tour. The tour includes presenting
concerts, sightseeing, Bible Study and work projects. Past tours have
taken the choir to 38 different states, Guatemala, Mexico, the Bahamas,
Canada and Northern Europe. A full lighting, sound, multi-media and drama
crew travels with the choir. Information each September is available concerning
the following summer's tour. Pastor Karl is the director.
Drama
Prelude Players is the name of our very talented drama team. Recognizing
the need to provide additional opportunities for ministry and involvement
a drama ministry was begun in 2003.
This ministry is open to anyone with abilities in acting, set construction,
scenery design, costumes, lighting, sound and multimedia.
Currently one to three person sketches are performed once a month in the
Sunday Morning Celebration Services, September thru May. In February a
major production is presented in a dinner theatre setting.
If you have abilities in drama and would be interested in getting involved
in this new and exciting ministry please contact Pastor Karl.
Celebration Service
Celebration Service is the term given to describe when the body of Christ
gathers for corporate worship. During this service a variety of music
can be heard: Special Music, Choirs, Offertory Music, and Congregational
Singing. A vocal trio assists with congregational singing frequently during
the services.
Music in this service is designed to allow the individual to praise and
worship the "Living God." Music in general is upbeat with moments of personal
reflection and praise. Music is selected which represents the holiness
nature of the church and the Lord Jesus Christ.
